List Building is one of the fundamental skills you must master to be successful online. And you do want to be successful online, right?
At the same time, there are many myths about building your list. And we are gonna bust the biggest one, and then tell you the truth.
List Building Myth – You Have to Have a Huge List
You hear it all the time – the money is in the list. And while that is true, it’s true in a slightly different way than you might imagine. I would never win a list size contest at any internet marketing event where I spoke or was an attendee.
However, I often win or am close to winning for the best responsiveness.
It’s not about the size of your list, it’s about the responsiveness. And when you take great care of your list community they will take great care of you.
So don’t get fooled into thinking that you can’t get started or profit with a small list. I hit 20K a month with a list community of only 1,800 in May of 1987, and have not looked back since.
So let me ask you a question? Would rather have a list of 100,000 people who were not very responsive to you, or a list of only 1,000 who were hyper responsive to you and invested in just about everything you offered them?
The correct answer, in case you’re not sure, is the 1,000 hyper responsive folks
The reality is all of this is based on relationship building. The reason that size does not matter is that relationship equals responsiveness.
If you do any kind of live events online, like teleseminars, webinars or hangouts, a great way to build relationships with your community is to ask them questions and have them answer in the Q & A area.
Every single list community, from the smallest to the largest, started with one person. So get started. Now. Or at least before your head hits the pillow tonight.
Challenge yourself. Set a goal to double your list size by a certain date, Now, if you only have 10 people on list, that’s gonna be pretty easy. But then 20 becomes 40 and 40 becomes 80 and 80 becomes 160 and pretty soon you are on your way..
As long as you remember that relationship building is the most important part of list building.
Bottom Line? I’s not the size of your list that matters most. It’s the relationship you have with your list community.
