Practical Content Marketing Tips – For Those of You Who Still Believe You Can’t Write Articles

writer's block 3_thumbThe trouble with Content Marketing is that it requires you to somehow create a significant volume of articles. While you can have someone else do it for you, unless they can “write in your voice” you are going to miss out on a good part of the “know like and trust factor” that comes from writing articles.

Which leads many people to the road block of “I just can’t write articles!”

This is a shame because it can keep you from cashing in on all the benefits of Article Marketing.

You can hang on to that belief if you want. My job today is to challenge that belief by showing you a way that even you can write articles.

I once believed…

I once believed I could not write. So much so that I never finished my dissertation for my Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy back in the late 80’s. Then the necessity of marketing my practice in a very crowded market presented me with both the opportunity and the challenge of writing an article a week for the local newspaper.

This is what I found:

1. Write like you talk – When you write like you are talking to someone it becomes very easy to craft between 300 -500 words on a topic you are famliar with, a topic within your expertise. You see, most people who believe they cannot write have been told they cannot write by someone along the way in education or academia. Writing articles for the web is very different than writing academically. I probably still couldn’t write academically if you held a gun to my head.

2. A grocery list – One of the things I teach my students and members is if you can write a 7 item grocery list you can write a 7 tips article that will bring you more prospects, publicity and profits. List out 7 things you would tell an ideal client about your topic. Fill in each tip with 50 or so words of explanation. That piece of content is now an article.

3. Get in the flow – Once you have written a few articles and enjoyed the results, you will find yourself coming up with all kinds of ideas for articles.
