The Resource Box in your articles is a very important piece of real estate in your article. What you say here will make or break your article marketing efforts.

So let’s take a look at 3 of the biggest and deadliest mistakes article writing make when creating their resource box, and then what to do instead.

Big Mistake #1 – Making it all about you. Because the resource box is also called the “author bio box” some authors decide it is now time to list every award and accomplishment they ever achieved in their life. I’ve got some news for you. No one cares. At least not at this point. The reader is looking for what is in it for them, what next piece of information or what next strategy can they get to help them build their business.

What to do instead – Make the focus all about them. What is the next action they need to take to get further resources from you? What will your information do for them?

Big Mistake #2 – Trying to demonstrate that you are the expert in your field. Related to the first mistake, this will turn off your prospect quicker than my dog grabs food off the floor. Here’s the reality: if you have not demonstrated in the article body that you are the expert, it’s way to late to try to do it in the resource box. And they probably are not gonna read that far anyway.

What to do instead – Help them get more resources from you. Tell them what they can get next, tell them what it will do for them, and tell them how to get it.

Big Mistake #3 – Sending them to more that one place. While it is true that you are allowed to have up to two active links to your web site or blog in your Resource Box at, why confuse the reader? I know you are trying to get the most bang for your buck, but two links usually gets the opposite result.

What to do instead – Decide on what you most want the reader to do next, and then provide one link for that action and outcome.
