The Your Next Chapter Rewrite Process
Every challenge has a story.
Every story can be rewritten.
Every rewritten story creates a new future.
This process is designed to help you uncover the story behind your challenge, question whether it's serving you, and intentionally create a new story that moves your life forward.
Don't rush.
The goal isn't to finish quickly.
The goal is to see yourself differently.
Step 1: Identify the Challenge
What challenge are you facing right now?
Be specific.
Describe what is happening rather than what you think it means.
Write:
Step 2: Identify the Story
What story are you telling yourself about this challenge?
Finish one or more of these sentences:
- I believe...
- I always...
- I never...
- People like me...
- Because this happened...
- The reason I can't...
- The truth about me is...
Write:
Step 3: Uncover the Hidden Story
Ask yourself:
- Where did I first learn this story?
- Who taught me this?
- What experience convinced me it was true?
- What emotions keep this story alive?
- How has this story protected me?
- What has this story cost me?
Write:
Step 4: Question the Story
Before you continue, challenge the story.
Ask:
- Is this based on objective reality?
- Would a camera see this story?
- Is there evidence against it?
- Does believing this story help me become the person I want to become?
- Does this story help me meet my long-term goals?
- If someone I loved believed this story, what would I tell them?
Write:
Step 5: Rewrite the Story
Now intentionally create a healthier story.
It should be believable.
It should be truthful.
It should move you forward.
Instead of writing what sounds positive...
Write what you choose to believe moving forward.
"My new story is..."
Step 6: Live the New Story
Stories become real through action.
What's one small action that is consistent with your new story?
Do it within the next 24 hours.
My next step is:
Reflection
What changed for you during this exercise?
What surprised you?
What story no longer has the same power over you?
Remember
Changing a story doesn't instantly change a life.
Living the new story does.
Return to this process whenever you face a new challenge.
Every challenge has a story.
Every story can be rewritten.
Every rewritten story creates a new future.
